The Harbor Home for Women
Exciting things are happening at The Harbor Home for Women in Conway, Arkansas. Once a church with a small and aging congregation, now a home for women of all ages who are coming out of a lifestyle of addiction and poor life choices. Our 9 month residential program addresses each woman's individual needs and through classes, counseling, mentoring and public service, seeks to empower the women to get to the root cause of the destructive behavior and to create new life choices.
The women come to us from all walks of life and are ages from 19-60 years of age. As they learn more about themselves and begin developing a vision of who they can become and the potential that lies inside of them, true and lasting change emerges.
Our program is non-denominational, faith-based and Christ-centered and impacts not only the women but their children and their entire families. One of the most exciting things we witness is mothers being reunited with their children and learning to become a stable figure in their lives and parents or adult children learning to enjoy their loved one for the first time in a long time. The rewards are many and we are experiencing lasting results.
Phase 1 is a 9 month program. As they move forward we prepare them for the workplace, helping prepare resumes, clothing for interviews and, when needed, helping them get their GED or other certifications needed to move forward in life. In Phase 1 they are in our care and are groomed to become a productive member of society.
Upon graduation, the "Harbor Girl" may enter Phase 2, living in another home on the property. They work and save money to gain transportation and living quarters. They may resident's in Phase 2 for up to six months. They continue to attend programs, classes and services designed to help them stay on course in their recovery.
As The Harbor Home and Harbor community, we have a thriving church. Many of our attendees have come from addiction backgrounds and many have come from prison, seeking a new firm foundation on which to rebuild their lives. Our leadership and church provides a safe community where they can re-locate nearby and continue to have the support and mentoring they need to succeed.
We know that recovery is a life-long process and our goal is to support them in every way without enabling them. We provide childcare for our working mothers and work to help the women secure good care and education for their children.
Our vision for the future is large. Our goal is to expand from 10 residents in Phase 1 and 6 beds in Phase 2 to a multi-purpose building with larger living quarters, classrooms, an event and educational center and a full on daycare program.
